Weddings

A wedding day is one of the most important days in the life of any couple. At St Martin's we seek to provide all the support and assistance we can in helping you prepare for Christian marriage.

A wedding in beautiful St. Martin's Anglican Church, Killara, on the leafy North Shore of Sydney, Australia

To be married at St Martin's Killara a number of things are necessary...

The first step is to make contact with our Parish Administrator, Marie Visvalingam, who will record your details and arrange for a letter explaining the introductory steps and inviting you to come along to one of our Sunday Services to meet the Rector, Martin Robinson.

This facilitates meeting the Rector, as well as getting an appreciation of the community of people who are St Martin's Killara, and the building in which they meet.

WHAT KIND OF PREPARATION IS REQUIRED?

All couples married at St Martin's need to undergo some form of Pre-Marriage education. This is most often, undertaking a course conducted by the Anglican Counselling Service, or going through the Prepare course with one of the Ministers. You will also meet with the minister who will conduct your wedding.

CAN WE HAVE OUR OWN CELEBRANT?

All weddings conducted at St Martin's will be officiated at by one of the Ministers at St Martin's. Other Christian ministers may be involved at the discretion of the Rector.

HOW MUCH IS THE OFFERING?

The Church Wardens of St Martin's invite the bridal couple to make a donation to St Martin's to assist in the proper maintenance of the church properties. The figure of  $800 - $1500 is given as a guide, as circumstances can vary.

WHAT ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY?

The photography of a wedding is a significant, but secondary, part of the event. Photographers should make themselves as unobtrusive as possible and photography during the service is undesirable and should be kept to a minimum.

HOW CAN WE ARRANGE MUSIC?

The Church organist has a general right to play at all St Martin's weddings. His fee is $200. Secular music is generally out of place in church and consideration should be given to having such music at the reception rather than in the service. Recorded music is unnecessary and presents technical problems.

WHAT ABOUT AN ORDER OF SERVICE?

As St Martin's is an Anglican Church, your wedding will be conducted according to an approved order of service. The celebrant will discuss this with you. A copy of any proposed order of service must be shown to the minister for him to check prior to finalizing
